"Passionately" | March 2020 | Directing & Editing
A short film that follows hip hop & jazz musician David Barber in the making of his upcoming album, titled Passionately. Ashley utilizes advanced cinematography techniques and short form documentary to create the promotional piece for David.
"Passionately" was accepted to the New York Hip Hop Film Festival in New York City, which featured actor and musician Ice Cube as its honorary guest.
The film was also showcased in PSU's Spring Film Showcase.
Unfortunately due to the onset of Covid-19, both festivals pivoted to an online format, so Ashley did not get to attend NYC and meet Ice Cube. Lol!
"Place of Music" | February 2020 | Directing & Editing
A short film highlighting four young jazz musicians: David Barber,
Keith Cheek, Lee Hauser, and Maeve Dahlen.
The project was recognized by KEX Portland (in collaboration with KEXP Seattle). Ashley was offered a position to produce, direct and edit a weekly video series at KEX for their upcoming YouTube channel. The on-set of COVID-19 unfortunately put a halt to the project.
"Ethereal Bliss" | March 2019 | Directing & Editing
Soulful musician David Barber shares an intimate view on what it's like to be a musical performer.
The film was recognized by NW Documentary. Ashley was awarded a full scholarship to attend Oregon Doc Camp, a retreat that provides opportunity for education and career growth amongst notable filmmakers all over the country. Each year it is held at Silver Falls, Oregon and spans 4 days; only 2-3 students in the Pacific Northwest are selected for scholarship and attendance.
